Teletherapy and Online Therapy

in California

Teletherapy

Teletherapy refers to phone, videoconferencing, online therapy or other types of virtual mental health treatment. Before the prolific use of videoconferencing software such as Skype, FaceTime, Zoom, and Google Chats, teletherapy was conducted over the phone. Many people still feel most comfortable with phone sessions. However, now that many safe and secure platforms are available for telethrapy and and telemedicine, online therapy is becoming widely. This is a convenient and safe option during times you wish to avoid social interactions due to the

COVID-19 pandemic and/or reside outside the region your preferred therapist works.

Typically, you must reside in the same sate as the therapist you are working with online. However, many executive orders have been instated to allow for teletherapy across state lines. Rules and restrictions apply from state to sate, so it is helpful to check with your therapist or potential therapist to learn more.

Additionally, some issues you may be facing may not be the best fit for online therapy, so it is important to talk first the teletherapist make sure online online therapy is the best course of treatment.

Some Benefits of Online Therapy

  • Convenient option for those with busy lives

  • Saves time and allows for more flexibility

  • Take advantage of the safety and comfort of home

  • Allows you to work with specialists outside your service area

  • Easy and user-friendly platforms available

What to Expect from Teletherapy

As online therapy, is relatively new, I am often asked if it "feels" the same as in-person therapy or if it is equally effective. For therapy to be effective, it is vitally important that a therapeutic alliance is built early on, as having a trusting and secure relationship is one of the strongest indicators of successful therapy. For those familiar and comfortable with video chats, rapport is often built quickly and effectively. For some that are less accustomed to online video conferencing, it may take some getting used to. However, it is my experience, that most take very quickly to this format of therapy, with most reporting a high level of satisfaction with online therapy.

In order for you to have the best experience, it is important to be prepared. This often means scheduling sessions times when you are able to take an hour away from your kids or partner. Privacy is essential for good therapy, so it's important to find a private room, free of interruptions.

Although the technology is quite advanced, there may be small idiosyncrasies and minor technological issues that may arise during the start up process. These issues are typically easily resolved within the first session and likely will not impact your overall experience. To improve quality and reduce delays, be sure you have a strong Internet connection.

It is my hope that your experience feels as close to in-person therapy as possible, while you enjoy the comfort and convenience of your own home.

My Approach to Teletherapy

I offer online therapy to adolescents, adults, and couples residing in the State of California, and have been doing so for the past 4 years. I have lived in both Southern and Northern California (Bay Area), therefore knowing and understanding the culture of both regions well. Teletherapy has made it possible for me to connect with individuals outside of Newport Beach and San Diego, therefore making my services available for more people and allowing me to continue therapy with folks that no longer live close by.

I provide teletherapy through doxy.me, a user-friendly and free video platform that does not require a software download. Rest assured, all our online communication will be HIPAA-compliant and secure, taking your privacy as highest priority. From the comfort of your home, we can work together online to discuss what you may be facing and navigate together how to find deeper understanding and clarity. Whether it is stress, anxiety, relationship with self or others, or bigger issues such as dealing with painful experiences, HIPAA-compliant teletherapy provides a safe and secure way to explore these issues. I aim to provide the highest level of care and regard, just as if you were visiting me in my OC or San Diego office.
