Therapy for Women and Girls

Women and girls can experience a number of challenges throughout their lifetime that can take a toll on relationships, career, and an individual's physical health as well as mental health. In fact, adolescent girls are more than twice as likely to be diagnosed with a mood disorders than boy and women are nearly twice as likely as men to be diagnosed with depression. Some of these women’s health issues may be caused or worsened by hormonal changes throughout the lifespan, such as premenstrual mood issues, perinatal and prenatal (in pregnancy) depression and anxiety, Postpartum Depression, and symptoms of menopause.

But biology cannot solely explain this phenomenon. Life circumstances and cultural factors impact women’s health and how women and girls feel about themselves and the world. This includes unequal power and status, societal pressures, juggling multiple roles such as work and care-taking for others, as well as experiencing sexual, physical, and/or emotional trauma in and outside of romantic relationships. Being a woman often means going through transitions, challenges, and adversities throughout your life, and it is important that you understand how all these influences impact your health and wellbeing.
